How Body Composition Affects Your Health...and What To Do About It!

5/10/2022

If you’re in your 40’s, 50’s or 60’s you may have noticed it takes a little more effort to maintain your health.  This is also the age range where I hear more complaints of nagging aches and pains that just seem to come out of nowhere and then hang around for months or years.

Why is that?

One of the biggest reasons is a loss of muscle mass and strength.  As you approach your 40’s, you start to lose muscle mass faster than your body rebuilds it due to changes in hormonal levels, changes in activity and other health factors.
A loss of muscle mass equates to decreased strength, which translates to being less and less active over time.

Being less active also means fewer calories are being burned and your muscles are not being challenged enough to maintain the muscle you have left.

All this leads to negative changes in your BODY COMPOSITION and your health as muscle mass continues to decrease and body fat increases.

There’s a good chance you are experiencing these negative changes in your body composition if you have noticed:
  • Moving around is getting harder
  • Doing tasks in or around your home is more difficult
  • Your joints and muscle ache more
  • You gain weight easily
  • It’s difficult to lose weight when you try
  • You’re at a “normal” weight, but your body looks and feels “soft”
  • Other health problems have started to develop, such as heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, cancer and dementia

The good news is you don’t have to “just accept it” as a “normal part of aging”.

There is something you can do about it…

You can improve BODY COMPOSITION to improve your overall health – with a nutrition and exercise program designed to help you increase your muscle mass and decrease your body fat.

But how?

Go Beyond The Bathroom Scale and Get Your Body Composition Tested
Before you start on your journey to improving your body composition and your health it’s important to know where you’re starting from so you can create the best plan to help you reach your goals.

Body Composition Testing with the right equipment is a fast and easy method of getting an accurate breakdown of your body fat, lean muscle and body water…without enduring uncomfortable, invasive for expensive testing procedures.

Your bathroom scale can be helpful to monitor weight loss if that’s your goal, but people who just focus on losing weight often end up losing lean muscle along the way.  Not good if you want to improve your health long-term!

If you are interested in improving your body composition…Body Composition Testing will be an important part of your plan.
It just takes a few minutes to get your personalized test results and gain a more complete understanding of your health by seeing how much muscle, fat and water you have instead of just relying on a number on the bathroom scale.

THERE’S MORE…

Your test results also give us other important information, including your total lean body mass (this is different from muscle mass) and your basal metabolic rate.

This helps take the guesswork out of creating an effective nutrition and fitness plan to help you reach your goals faster.

Body Composition Testing regularly throughout your journey is also a great way to track your progress over time and make sure you are maintaining your lean muscle long-term.  Seeing changes in your body fat and lean muscle lets you know if you’re on the right track or if some adjustments are needed to your nutrition or fitness program.

We look forward to supporting you on your health journey!
