Oven Baked Sweet Potato Chips

6/19/2019

Camping and summertime BBQ’s!  Fresh garden salsa and guacamole!
Without chips?  Not possible!

Okay, it is possible.

I’ve used fresh vegetables as a chip substitute, but sometimes I just want a REAL CHIP!

And when you want or need to avoid grains…

It’s so hard to find a good quality chip that is truly “grain-free”.  I can’t tell you how many food labels I’ve read on chip bags.

And many of them at first glance APPEAR to be “grain-free” (i.e. sweet potato chips) –

But when you look at the fine print on the label, they are made with some type of added grain or grain-based flour, not to mention being cooked in unhealthy oils or the other random added ingredients that I don’t recognize and can’t pronounce.

So, I set out to make my own Oven Baked Sweet Potato Chips….and absolutely fell in LOVE with these!

They take a little time and patience to bake at a low oven temperature to get the right amount of crunch without burning them…but I promise they are well worth the wait!

Ingredients
1 Sweet Potato, medium to large
Olive Oil Spray
Black Pepper
Garlic Powder

Don’t’ be afraid to mix it up a little and experiment with other seasonings or spices that make you happy!

Instructions
  1. Pre-heat oven to 250 degrees.
  2. Spray a baking sheet (or two) with olive oil spray.
  3. Slice sweet potato into thin, even slices.  I used a mandoline slicer.
  4. Place sweet potato slices on a baking sheet in a single layer.
  5. Coat sweet potato slices with olive oil spray.
  6. Sprinkle with black pepper and garlic powder...how much you use depends on what YOU like!
  7. Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until chips are crispy and lightly browned.
  8. Cooking times may vary with different baking sheets and/or ovens.  Keep an eye on your chips the first time you make these to find what works best for you.
  9. Allow chips to cool completely.
  10. Store in an airtight container in the fridge until ready to serve.

Enjoy your Oven Baked Sweet Potato Chips à la carte or serve them up with your favorite dip!
