Mistake #1: Doing Nothing & Accepting Their Diagnosis For Their Knee Pain
Have you had an X-Ray/MRI or been given a diagnosis - Arthritis? Degenerative changes? Torn meniscus? Tendinitis? Have you ever been told "There's nothing you can do about it" - "It's just a normal part of aging" or "You'll just have to live with it"? Mistake #2: Getting Advice on WebMD, Google or YouTube
These days we can find A LOT of information online. Some of that information is great, but some of it is incorrect or just flat out wrong. The danger is that each individual's injury, symptoms and health status is unique to them. What may seem like good advice and may be helpful for some, can actually make things worse for others. Mistake #3: Resting TOO Long
Resting immediately after an injury happens definitely has its benefits, but if you rest for too long your knee can get very stiff, start to develop scar tissue, and your muscles become very weak. This makes your Knee Pain worse and leads to more problems...and not just with your knee. This is why its important to get proper treatment sooner rather than later. |
Mistake #4: Relying On Pain Medication
Taking pain medications can have immediate effects and be very helpful to work through an ACUTE injury, but you shouldn't have to rely on them for very long. Unfortunately, many patients have relied on pain pills for years "just to get through the day" or "keep up with their normal activities". If this is the case, you're really just masking the pain... and this is NOT a real solution for Knee Pain! |

Mistake #5: Relying On A Knee Brace
When you have Knee Pain wearing a knee brace can feel good. You're likely to feel more supported, have less pain and have more confidence to do the things you need or want to do. This is yet another way to simply mask the pain. Wearing a brace also means the muscles around the knee don't have to work as hard, which leads to more weakness, instability and increased pain when not wearing the brace. What you really need is to figure out the underlying cause of your Knee Pain and address THAT! |
